This Was Never Part Of The Plan

Hi runners, πŸ‘‹πŸΌ

Katelyn here with newsletter #491!

Today, I'm sharing my own story.

I first ran the Boston Marathon way back in 2003; I wasn't even a runner, but had signed up for the race impulsively when my mom got sick. I grew up in Newton, so the race was part of my childhood and something I always felt nostalgic for.

I somehow made it through the 26.2 miles back then, but it wasn't pretty. After that race, I moved to Costa Rica and basically made running my life.

But I'd never gone back and revisited the Boston Marathon until this year.

I'll be honest. It was tough. It wasn't the race I'd dreamed of, but the one I needed.

We made a video about it, and I'm really proud of it.

We just put it out this morning, here.

I hope you get a chance to check it out. Let us know what you think!

BOSTON: The Race I Needed (YouTube)

Katelyn grew up a couple of miles from Heartbreak Hill, and on Boston Marathon race day, she and her family always made it out to cheer on the runners.

But she'd never been a runner until she suffered a personal tragedy and signed up for the marathon, running it without much training over twenty years ago.

She's gone on to become an accomplished trail runner and coach, but she had never returned to the Boston Marathon to run her race until this year.
