HOKA, one of the top running shoe brands in the world, has launched a handful of new shoes in 2025: sneakers tailored for easy runs, long workouts, races and more.
Senior Editor Alex Cyr tested HOKA's 2025 lineup, and provides his honest feedback for seven of its most popular shoes. Here, he explains what kind of running each shoe is made for, and what he likes and dislikes about every pair, to help you decide which HOKA model is right for you.
The Leadville 100 is one of the most demanding races in ultrarunning, and this year David Roche delivered his best performance yet. The Colorado-based coach and ultrarunner crossed the line in 15:12:30, beating his previous best by 14 minutes.
Afterward, he shared a detailed breakdown of his fueling and hydration plan, offering a rare inside look at how precision nutrition can make or break a 100-mile effort at altitude.
Staying properly hydrated can enhance your running performance—or derail it completely if you don’t get it right. Too little, and you’re dragging through miles, dizzy, fatigued, and cramping. Too much, and you’re dealing with stomach slosh or, in extreme cases, hyponatremia (we’ll get to this later).
Some of us may be thinking, a guide on how to make running easier? Is that even possible?
As we train, we constantly improve, opening the door to push harder and harder during each workout. However, running shouldn’t be impossible every time you step onto the road or trail.
For years, runners have been told to follow the 10 percent rule: don’t increase your weekly mileage by more than 10 percent, or you’ll end up injured. It’s been repeated by coaches, built into training plans, and even embedded into algorithms on GPS running watches.
But new research is calling that advice into question, and suggesting the real danger lies not in your weekly total, but in sudden jumps during individual runs.
The 2025 TCS New York City Marathon is shaping up to be one of the most talent-packed editions in race history. New York Road Runners JUST announced that defending championsAbdi Nageeye and Sheila Chepkirui will return to the five boroughs on Nov. 2 to defend their titles, along with American record holder Emily Sisson. Molly Seidel is also making her return to competition after a two-year hiatus! And perhaps best of all, NYC will see current Boston champ (and '22 NYC winner) Sharon Lokedi go head-to-head with '23/'24 Boston champ (and '23 NYC winner) Hellen Obiri, in what has become an extraordinary rivalry between these two American-based runners. Watch our deep dive video on the women's and men's elite fields to get a full grasp of what will happen in NYC.
The 2025 Chicago Marathon elite fields are STACKED. We break down the biggest storylines: John Korir chasing sub-2:01, Jacob Kiplimo’s marathon potential, Conner Mantz’s bold shot at the American record, and the return of Galen Rupp. On the women’s side, Magertu Alemu, Hawi Faysa, and Irene Cheptai headline a wide-open race shadowed by Ruth Chepngetich’s suspension. Plus, could Nike unveil a new super shoe (Alphafly 4)? Join us for predictions and analysis.
